Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
