Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
