Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
