Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
