Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
