Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
