Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
