Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
