Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
