Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
