Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
