Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
