Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
