Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
