Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
