Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
