Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
