Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
