Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
