Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
