Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
