Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
