Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
