Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
