Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
