Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
