Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
