Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
