Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
