Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
