Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
