Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
