Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
