Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
