Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
