Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
