Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
