Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
