Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
