Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
