Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
