Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
