Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
