Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
