Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
