Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
