Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
