Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
