Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
