Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
